Inn at Perry Cabin – St. Michaels, Maryland

Every once in a while my travels take me to a hotel that checks off all of my “LOVE” boxes: strong sense of place, excellent service, incredible dining and loads of amenities.  When I find these hotel gems, I can’t help but sing its praises to everyone I know.  Luckily I have this little blog so I can share some of these great finds with you!

Last month I traveled to St. Michaels, Maryland for a “5 Reasons to go to Maryland this summer” story for the Fodors Travel Blog.  Although I grew up in Arlington, Virginia, about an hour and a half away from St. Michaels, it was my first time visiting the area.  St. Michaels is a charming marina town, perfect for summers away from the hustle and bustle of bigger cities like Baltimore, Washington DC and Annapolis.  Although the town is full of adorable B&B’s, the jewel of St. Michaels is Inn at Perry Cabin.  Part of the Orient-Express collection, the Inn at Perry Cabin is a former private, 19th-century colonial mansion turned luxury resort overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.

There were so many things to love about this property.  From the second I stepped out of my car and the scent of the Linden trees filled my nostrils, I was instantly relaxed.  Inn at Perry Cabin oozes tranquility due to its close proximity to the water, the soft music that wafts through the cozy lobby area that feels like a family living room and of course the small, yet inviting, Linden Spa.  The guest rooms and suites are all decorated with a nautical theme, but thankfully not one that came off as cheesy or kitschy.  Everything from the wide range of blues, dark browns and cream hues in the color pallets of the décor, to framed drawings of rope knots and lighthouses honored the fishing and sailing culture that St. Michaels is known for.

Speaking of fishing, let’s talk about the food! Inn at Perry Cabin has two main restaurants, Sherwood’s Landing and Purser’s Pub.  I dined at Sherwood’s Landing which was definitely more formal than Purser’s Pub but not intimidating.  The menu options were all very approachable with a strong emphasis on fresh seafood (shocker).  Whenever I’m near water I always order seafood, so I had “The Seafood Collection” as an appetizer (meant for two, lol) and the Gulf Coast Red Snapper filet served with roasted pepper piperade and black olive tapenade.  Normally I hate olives so I was slightly scared of this dish, but the acidity in the peppers balanced out the sourness of the olives really well.  I can’t remember if I tried to stuff myself with dessert, but chances are I did.  Either way, I truly can’t say enough great things about this hotel/resort/magical place of dreams but I’ll shut up now and let you check out the gallery.  If you’re ever in the area and in need of a truly relaxing vacation in a quaint marina town full of history, Inn at Perry Cabin is a must-visit.

P.S. Don’t forget to check out their great list of activities like sailing, fishing, crabbing, boat building and more!
