Woohoo it’s road trip time! I’m busting out of DC this weekend to check out a few towns on the eastern shore of Maryland and I could not be more excited. One sentiment that I’ve always tried to express on this blog is that the idea that travel does not mean crossing an ocean! It can truly be all about exploring your own backyard.
This road trip will take me no further than an hour and a half away from my house. I plan to stop in downtown Annapolis, Maryland, home of the Naval Academy, cute boutiques and alfresco dining along the Chesapeake River. After a few hours in Annapolis, I’ll head to Kent Island, the largest island in the Chesapeake Bay. I adore sleepy, fishing/crabbing towns and this seems like my kind of place. Finally on Sunday I’ll head to St. Michaels, Maryland where I’ll explore the history, the beach and the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. I’m also SO excited to stay at The Inn at Perry Cabin, a stunning Orient-Express resort and spa housed in a colonial mansion.
Finally, shout out to my friend Chris at Packed Suitcase and her #TravelLocal movement! She did an excellent piece about St. Michaels that has helped to inspire my trip. I hope you all choose to travel within your communities as well!
It seems like it’s going to be the perfect weekend of Maryland discovery. Oh, I also plan to eat my body weight in Maryland Blue crab 🙂 Do you have any travel plans this weekend? I want to hear them!
