It’s time to visit America’s other neighbor!  Last week I had the pleasure of attending a media trip to the Baja California region of Mexico.  It was quite the trek from DC, requiring an overnight layover in Los Angeles and then a two-hour flight from LA to Loreto, Mexico.  Loreto was the first Spanish settlement in the Baja region and was founded in 1697 by Jesuit missionaries (more on that in a separate post).  We were visiting Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto, the latest property from The Villa Group.  Islands of Loreto is the fifth property in The Villa Group’s portfolio.  Additional locations include Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Riviera Nayarit, and Puerto Vallarta – my favorite city in Mexico. 

As you can see, the views from the resort were absolutely stunning.  The resort features guest rooms with double beds, as well as one-bedroom suites, four penthouses and one, four-bedroom Presidential suite.  I adored my one bedroom suite which was basically an apartment with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, two full bathrooms (rare!), a master bedroom/bathroom with a huge whirlpool tub and shower and the pièce de résistance – an enormous terrace.  I spent each morning working from that terrace, a girl can get use to that view!

One aspect I loved about the resort was that they didn’t play cheesy music in all of the public areas.  If you’ve ever visited a resort in a warm-weather destination that has an expansive pool area, they ALWAYS play some sort of 80s music…I’m assuming in an attempt to attract people to the bar.  I’m not one of those people.  When I want to relax and work on my tan, I’d rather not have to use my ipod to block out Madonna.  Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto places a strong focus on providing a tranquil environment for their guests, making sure they feel like they’ve left all their stress and troubles behind the moment they set foot on property.  I also noticed, and I’m not sure if this is directly correlated to the lack of music, that the clientele at the resort seemed to be 30-plus, which is nice when you want to avoid squealing kids or drunk teens at the pool.
